***CAUTION*** Lowe's Merchandise Credit Cards ***BEWARE***

-14 Deal Score

I returned an item at my NC Lowe's store yesterday. As always, when you get a Merchandise Credit card they check your driver's license. But when I went to use that merchandise card for another purchase, Lowe's now makes you show your driver's license again. I asked why and was told to cut down on fraud.

If the driver's license # using the merchandise card is not the same driver's license # when the merchandise credit was issued, then Lowe's will not honor the purchase. Not sure if this policy is Nationwide, but if not, will soon be.

I would advise NOT to purchase any Lowe's Merchandise Credit cards on EBay or anywhere else.

Was told people steal merchandise and return for credit, then sell cards at pawn shops, etc.

Lowe's Online purchases stopped letting you use Merchandise Cards a while ago

Lowe's GIFT Cards do not seem to be affected.

Hope this helps!!!!

This is shady business practices. It's all about money. They should be sued for it. Home Depot and other hardware stores never do this. If people steal merchandise cards then what stop them from stealing gift cards? Why the two cards are being treated differently?
They are stealing product then going to a different lowes to return without a reciept and get a merchandise credit. They then try to sell the merchandise credit card. I was approached one time in a NC store by a guy outside that told me he had a 70 dollar merch. card he'd sell me for 40 bucks. I completely agree they should track this, loss to the company in the theft affects all of us that pay for our items. More overhead, higher prices.

Because Lowe is too cheap to hire a security firm to fix it.
Now customers are getting shit.

My Home Depot does this as well.

Home Depot also does this. Don't blame the retailer, blame the shop lifters.

By the way if you ever buy a merchandise card from someone in the parking lot, you are only contributing to the problem.

in my experience with home Depot (like target) you're SOL if you don't have a receipt.

Lowe's on the other hand is at least flexible and understanding and fair to both the customer and itself by implementing this rule.

Why do people still post this stuff in hot deals? Post it on deal discussion or general... It's not a hot deal and craps up the place.
cuz only like 5% of people go there
