Verizon is also running this promo, as are other mobile providers I'm sure.

I bought Google Home and then returned it a week later. Simply couldn't figure out what purpose it served. My phone does almost exactly what Google Home does. Why would I need a speaker in one room when I carry my phone with me in every room. Now if instead of selling me Home, they were to drop the Pixel XL down to $400, it would be worth buying. It started at a ridiculous price and it's definitely way too expensive to buy now in 2017.

In contrast to os2baba, I use my Google Home every day, multiple times a day and even got one for my 60-someodd year-old mother, who also uses it every day. Once you get into the whole hands free thing (without having to tote your phone with you everywhere), you begin to wish you had it years ago.

As for the Pixel phone? They are fantastic and this combo makes them even more attractive.

I was a Nexus fan for the longest time but thank goodness I reconsidered buying the Pixel XL. Why is it that not a single android phone keeps its value over time. I'm still keeping Android as a backup and to use the occasional Android pay offer that comes along but despite Google having the most responsive and smartest AI, I don't see myself going back to android in the near future.

I'd prefer to steer clear of Google HAL.

How much a phone is worth to you is relative. How much a phone is worth to the market is simple market dynamics. If someone wants what is arguably one of the best phones made and prefers Android, this is an excellent phone choice at normal flagship phone pricing. Google has had no problem selling them. They've been backordered since they came out at the end of October.

I also own a Google Home and can say if you're in the market for a smart home device, I prefer the Google Assistant on Google Home over Alexa on Amazon Echo, but that is largely a personal preference. I find it much smarter with real world questions, and it integrates well with my Chromecast, Samsung Smartthings and Phillips Hue hubs, and it distinguish between my voice and my girlfriend's to give us personalized feedback regarding questions like "when's my next appointment?"

My only gripe is that if you use a G Suite (GApps) account, you'll have limited features as it does not presently work with calendars on GSuite accounts.

It seems iOs devices are immune to this phenomenon and manage to keep their value over the same time.
