For those not familar with Uniden radar detectors or this model then check out https://www.rdforum.org/forumdisplay.php?f=169. These aren't the crappy Uniden you may have had in the past. The detection on these perform on par or better than higher priced Escort & Valentine models.

Owned this and the dfr7. Both excellent detectors. If you have the money and patience (backordered til July) the R1 and R3 are available although pricing is substantially higher at 299/399 but arguably the top rated detectors currently on the market. I was lucky to get the R3 and its a beast.

have this model... it is one of the best detectors for the ka 34.7 band which is the band pretty much every cop in my area uses. beats out some of the $400+ detectors. it also has very good filtering and I hardly hear it unless it's a cop.

My old detector just took a crap. Is this a good deal? I know nothing about them, I just want one that's decent and not too pricey.

Slightly cheaper at Wal-Mart if you choose the pick up option.

The 9500ix is rather old at this point, 4+ years. I have read that this is better to block out BSM on other cars. Do you have that issue with your 9500ix?

Of course, speaking of old tech. I still run with my 8500 x50 unit. Can't pull the trigger on a new unit that will bake in the AZ sun all day Smilie

Plus tax will end up more expensive for most.

Doesn't Amazon collect sales tax in all states now?

It ended up being 145.69 for me at Wal-Mart vs 148.66 at amazon. Both charge sales tax but Wal-Mart will be easier return if there's an issue

I replaced a 9500ix with a DFR7 which is a DFR6 with GPS. My 9500ix would go off on every BSM system which was a pain, while the DFR7 blocked most of them. The detection of this unit will be on par or better than your 9500ix and the BSM filter is worth it for the price alone. Since this doesn't have GPS, you won't have any features associated with that (red light cameras, blocking out false stationary locations, etc).

If you aren't using the GPS then this is a better unit. If you rely on it heavily then go with a DFR7 or the new R3. The R3 outperforms the redline if you need something with even more performance.

I know in prior years, there were issues with false alarms on some radar detectors (not necessarily this model, though I'm unsure) triggered by radar-guided cruise control and similar features. Anyone know if that problem exists on these?

radar and laser detector are useless now days, the cop level up, they start using lidar, which only take 0.5 second to check your speed, unless these thing has laser jammer built in, these thing are useless, save your money

9500ix is more like 10 years old. I had 9500ix and now LRD950 (which is basically DFR7 now that it runs DFR7 firmware): a lot less false alerts from BSM systems in newer cars, better range. No comparison with 9500ix.
