Good price on this reel, but I'd rather spend the $8 more for the Penn Conflict.

Why is the conflict a better reel? And where are you finding it for only $65? And what size? Just curious...

They are very similar and share many of the exact same parts.

The conflict is slightly lighter and has extra bearings in the handle. The conflict feels better to hold and is smoother. Also has a ddlifferent knob, which I prefer over the battles knob.

If it was the Battle for $57 or the Penn Conflict for full price, I'd take the Battle, but for only an $8 difference the slight improvements of the Conflict justify the few extra dollars.

I agree on the Conflict. I debated between that deal and this one and ended up deciding that the Conflict was worth it. The one part that added value to the Battle II was the fact that it is sold by Amazon. I'm not familiar with the Conflict seller.

I bought from the conflict seller, first purchase there, never heard of the company before and it is legit. I'm very happy with the conflict reel and the shipping. The 5000 sold out so I wouldn't be surprised if other sizes will sell out too.

This reel can be used in saltwater.

From slicklupaka in previous thread:

Spinning Reel Size: (3000)

Suggested mono: 3kg-5kg (6-10lb)
Suggested Braid: 6-14lb
Common Applications (Guide only): Small fishing reel mostly suited for light fishing in lakes, rivers, bays, harbours etc.
Popular for fish type (most common species): Bream, Bass, Flathead, Tarwhine, KG Whiting, Mangrove jack.
Choosing a fishing rod to go with this size reel: 3000 or 30 Sized spinning reels being of fairly light class would normally be most suitable for pairing up with a rod that is around 6-7ft 6 inches in length which has a line class between 3Kg-7Kg. you could also use this sized reel as a light weight blackfish reel on rods which are around 9-10ft rated to 4Kg.

I was recently looking for a new 3000 size reel and couldn't find anything at Bass Pro I liked for less than $100. Saw a fly reel a friend bought from ebay that was pretty nice so I thought wth, I'll try it. I bought 3 different 3k class reels from China for about $15 each hoping maybe one would be usable. Surprisingly, all 3 are as nice as any $100 reel I tried at BP. They're all made in China anyway. Time will tell if they hold up.

Sure it could, but it would be overkill for trout. This is a small saltwater reel.

For trout, you typically want to use ultralight fishing gear.

Hmmm, I bought a very good condition Penn Pursuit II size 8000 for about the same price a few months ago. Best reel I've had so far in my life
