Definitely a sale price. I've seen references in 2016 to prices closer to $600.

They'd be perfect for triathlon. (That's pretty much the raison d'etre for 88mm wheels.) Yeah, you can definitely mix and match, though if there's not much wind, you can run 88mm on both sides.

Reading the reviews on monoprice, and these are rated 5 star rims.

Both mention that you will need rim tape, so keep that in mind before your install.

FYI, Monoprice sells rubber rim strips for $0.16. If you want to run tubeless, pick up some kapton tape.

88mm should only really be used for triathlon/time trial. A rim that deep can make even a good bike handler a little too twitchy in unexpected crosswinds which can spell disaster if riding on a road bike in a tight group. Road racing rules have banned anything over 64mm i believe for this very reason.

A great deal though. Hope the 50mm come available again at a good price.

Could not pass up at this price. In for a set of 88s for my TT bike. Will compare to my 2Quik 60mm set made in China and my 2013 Zipp 404s.
