Probably the cheapest smartphone around right now.

. I bought one on black friday for $10 and have used it when mine is in the shop. Ok, it only has 1 GB of ram and 8 GB storage, although it does take a 32 GB micro SD. Hey, it's only $15. I was able to easily unlock it for T-Mobile, although some have had trouble doing the free unlock lately.

Here are the specs

AT&T Unlock Process for Go-Phone has changed recently

Unfortunately, AT&T has started to distinguish b/w Go Phones and regular AT&T phones for unlocking process. You may still get through with an unlock but the chances are very low. I bought the iPhone SE from Go Phone deal and it took me at least 16 requests before they finally gave up and unlocked my phone. So, yes, its getting difficult now which is sad Frown

I bought it from WallyMart a few days ago, tried to submit an unlock request a few times with no luck. Can't even complete the processs on the site, get "This device is not on AT&T wireless network" or something like that. The gravy train is over.....

If you need a cheap/backup unlockable phone, consider the Cricket LG Risio 2. It is $30 now but was $25 from 6/4 to 6/17. Unlock codes are under $2 on eBay. Has 1.5GB RAM and 16GB storage (9.6GB free out of box) which make it more livable than the Ideal and other 1GB/8GB phones; microSD slot, 5" 854x480 LCD, Android 6.0.1.

I've noticed that carriers have been taking turn slipping easily unlockable (or plain unlocked) cheap phones to the general public roughly every year and then close the loophole next year. T-Mobile and MetroPCS in 2014 (Alcatel Evolve/Fierce, LG Optimus F6/L70/L90, Nokia Lumia 521), Verizon prepaid 2015+ (Moto E LTE), AT&T GoPhone 2015-2016 (Alcatel Ideal, LG Phoenix 2, Lumia 640 LTE, ZTE Zmax 2) and now Cricket in 2017 (LG Risio 2). Of course, Sprint and Boost/Virgin subsidiaries have been dumping prepaid phones at us for years but their phones are useless on GSM carriers.

I just got denied a few days ago, requiring 6-month service. All my previous unlock requests were no issues. I never had AT&T prepaid account.

So, I think it's real that free unlocking day for brand new sealed AT&T go phone is gone.

Good to hear. I haven't either. I've just seen a some people complain about it, so I mentioned it in the OP.

When is the last time you unlocked one?

And you've done it before and know how -- meaning you check off non-ATT user (I forget the exact wording)?

What happened when you tried?

Previously I found out that I tripped BBs cell phone black list as my orders were getting cancelled. That was about a year ago.

So, I ordered and the order is ready for pick up.

This will make a good wi-fi music and contact numbers phone for work.

when was the last time you unlocked one? All or most of the eBay listings clearly state you need to have the phone active on gophone for 6 months. There are a couple premium listings that charge $15, I'm not sure if those will be able to unlock the phone but at $15 it's just not worth it imho.
