Oklahoma Joe's Highland 879-sq in Black Charcoal Horizontal Smoker $199 Lowes B&M

Did a search and did not see this posted. I am SF Bay area, don't know if these are anywhere else? Anyways, a pretty good entry level smoker, fairly heavy steel. Check Google for mods that can turn it into a better, more efficient smoker on the cheap. You will need to check your local store for pick up, shipping is available but may cost quite a bit due to weight.
Of course, coupons may also sweeten the deal, if you use them.

Actually I did enter the link in the space provided. Is that not correct? Please let me know if it was incorrect, as I haven't posted much. Is it not okay to click "see deal" which I just tried and works? Just asking

Honest question: Can you recommend another side box smoker similarly sized as this, for around the same price? I realize most owners have to modify this one, but even after that it still seems very reasonably priced. Plus I also agree, the original Joes was much higher quality, but alas, this is what is available now.

Might want to scan CL for an old used one. Many people that buy smokers use them a few times then give up. Even if rusty and abused, they can be restored with elbow grease and BBQ paint. I got my circa 1990 New Braunfels Black Diamond for $25 from a garage sale. Holds 4 9# shoulders, weighs at least 200#, made from 1/8" steel, worth more than that as scrap. Mods would run about $30; a dryer elbow to get the chimney down to grill level, a 20/20 charcoal basket, and something to block direct radiation from firebox (I use an old pie pan).

But if you want new, I think this is a great deal. Keep it clean, store it inside and it will last far longer than you will.

Just buy a 22" weber kettle and slow n sear. Becomes a great smoker for the same price or less.

This is a great price for an Oklahoma Joe's. If you are not in a hurry you may consider waiting until August or September when the closeouts begin. As the other poster said if you are willing to hunt on Craigslist and do some restoring you can get a nice bargain. My $.02.

With some mods easily findable on the web, this makes an excellent smoker. Nice thick metal to hold temps. However, without mods the heat does raise to the top way to fast and doesn't hold on the grate level. Picked one up at Walmart for $80 end of season last year. Very happy with it.

Funny that nowhere in Lowes specifications or in the in pdf instruction manual is the weight listed. My guess is OK Joes has cheapened this unit or all in general from the heavy gauge steel beast of the past. If memory serves I looked this one over in Lowes and was shocked the chargriller looked much better quality.
