Where to get good price on Specialized or Giant bicycles?

139 10 June 24, 2017 at 09:22 PM
Hi Bike Riders,

First of all, I tried local bike shops and I did research online too. I know exactly what I want and my size.

The local bikes shops were not too helpful as they tried to sell me what they have and not what I need.. Also they said - We charge MSRP and no discounts and we have to order the bike. And we do basic assembly.

https://www.specialized.com/us/en...ite/126333

OR

https://www.giant-bicycles.com/us/roam-1

The above bikes are slightly expensive ($1000) but I want to buy best I can because I wont buy another one for next 6 years. I have been riding my $99 walmart bike for 4 years now. Thats why I want to get a very good bike so I am not even looking at Diamondback, Raleigh, Schwinn etc...

I dont expect a steal but would like to get a 10% to 15% discount and thats where I need you guy's help to find out how and where to get Specialized/Giant/Trek bikes at a discount.

Thanks

Congrats on your hunt for a new bike, it's a great investment. In regards to your question I personally don't know of any way to lower the msrp for the bikes you want other then getting a model from previous years or waiting for a special holiday sale at your bike shop.

After purchasing my specialized sirrus comp, I realized that could have saved a ton of money by getting a used bike from Craigslist. If you can find the brand and style you want at a great price, I would say buy it then take it to a bike shop for a complete tear down and rebuild (new brake and shifter cables, repacked bearings for wheels and crank, wheel truing etc.). This way you can save a lot of money and have a bike that has basically been rebuilt to factory status.

Best of luck with your hunt.

It might be possible to leverage a college/school discount if you meet that criteria. Otherwise, a senior discount might suffice.

BOL to you! The other style/color Specialized that you linked to was on my radar, but I didn't want the reflective logo, just a standard overlay was wanted... then I got to looking at the cable routing and decided against the bike.

What did you end up getting?
Also I dont qualify for student or senior discount. but thanks Smilie

Cant find anything decent on craigs but a good idea. Bikes dont have carfax so hope the frame will not have stressed too much. Also the feeling of a shiny new bike will be awesome. I have never owned a new car(my significant other gets all new stuff) so I should try a new bike at the least .. lol..

Waited for EOY phasing of old stock cycling in new inventory. I looked for over a year after researching and test riding a fist full of bicycles before deciding on a trek ds.
If i didn't pick the trek up, I'd have ordered a bicycle with individualistic options and mechanical upgrades. That'd have put my budget out an additional few months to afford it.
You seem to be like me in this instance for going new. Cant blame you. Never had a new bicycle or vehicle and working to achieve the set goal for such; i dont regret it.
Dont skimp on wheel/hubs crank set, derailleurs, & desired braking system.
A local ma n pop bicycle shop thats an authorized dealer is my recommendation. I've built a relationship with mine and am willing to pay slightly more for their good customer service and workmanship.

used craigslist. is the best bang for your buck. looks like you want a "cyclo cross" or hybrid bike .

$1000 is a lot of money for a bike that doesnt specialize in anything other than a mode of transportation.

Bikesdirect is always a good pricepoint comparison. if u can meet or beat those prices for the specifications, its a good deal.

a whole lotta bike for 899.
http://www.bikesdirect.com/produc...nbikes.htm

if its more for city riding, take any mountain bike and put some slick/thin tires on them.

http://www.bikesdirect.com/produc...omp_xi.htm
699 even more bike for the money.

Tires can run about 30$ each. but you get way more bike and capabilities with these two than you do with your specialized/giant.

Those are plenty for me and I will mostly ride paved trails and little bit of dirt paths in nearby parks.. (No jumps after I got hurt last month playing soccer). Specs on the ones you listed look good too but I never heard of bikes direct or Motobecane before.. Their website looks like its from 1995 and being a web developer myself, that took me away from their site on 3 seconds before. I wish I could trade a website for a bike..lol..

Have you bought from bikes direct? Can you share your experience? Will I get stuck with a bike with all good parts (High end gears and shocks etc) but poor build quality, geometry and frame and regret not paying extra for a very well known brand? Excuse my worry - Just trying to get something good as I keep my cars and bikes for many many years.

Anyways - Thanks and I just need to think about this. I love what I get for paying $899 or $699.. It it works and if I buy and love these, will be even more thankful to you... I already am saying - Thank you !

You probably won't notice a geometry difference unless you ride side by side. Most sport oriented bikes (mountain or road) are generally more "hunched" over. If you want to sit upright then that is more of a cruiser /hybrid/city bike. You can adjust a bike to fit your style if you are not a fan of its current set up.

You can get a riser hand bar or an adjustable stem to raise the bar.

I'd get the 699 bike and throw some slicks tires on it.

Helped two friends order bikes from
Bikes direct. Quick fast and good customer service. Horrible site but that keeps their prices low. Haven't heard complaints about motobecane. It's probably no different than any store in house brand.

For transportation and light trail. You can go even cheaper. The 699 is a legit mountain bike set up. You can do some serious riding with it. You can probably drop to the <500$ price point and still get a good bike

consider going to your lbs and not a big box store (REI, DICKS, and stray from those window shopping stores) . Inquire about a custom fit NEW bicycle.

http://www.nashbar.com - Just bought a full carbon frame road bike with shimano 105 drivetrain for $793 shipped. Can order from Amazon to get the 5% cashback if you have their card. They have cheaper models that aren't carbon but the carbon 105 is a steal - a comparable Giant or Specialized would be at least 1600.

This is the bike: http://www.nashbar.com/webapp/wcs...2599_-1___
https://www.amazon.com/Nashbar-Ca...B00PYVIZ4I

There was no coupon but they drop the price by 20-30% regularly. The thing is that a new version just came out like early this month so these may go out of stock. If you want an ultegra version with better wheels watch the Nashbar CR5 - It dropped to 1124 before taxes/shipping just yesterday but it went back up today. Just keep watching literally every day or two and you may be able to get what I got. The amazon price will change to the same as the nashbar.com site - I bought it there cuz I have the store card so got 5% cashback.
