Off topic comments in deal threads

So there used to be 15 comments on this thread, six were deleted. Among the deleted:

- Someone asking about "where are the creepy comments lol"
- My comment explaining that mods are deleting OT comments
- A reply to the first comment stating "this isn't Youtube or reddit"

the ones that are still there:

- The ol' classic "I want them [the bikinis] 100% off"
- A reply to that about "pros only need them 90% off"
- A reply to that about amateurs needing it only 10% off

Obviously I have my jimmies rustled that they deleted the milder comments and left the really lame, OT comments there.

But this is a broader problem that every topic involving women's intimates/swimwear always gets inundated with this sort of OT commentary. It's not even remarkably clever or witty. So the question is, have the mods ever discussed this? Are they going to take stronger action?

"Just thumb it down if you don't like them." Wink
This site is really trying to clean itself up.
But without the witty comments, it looks more like a clone of D+. haha

The worst and most useless posts are the ones that say "thx op", "in 4 1", "repped", or some combination thereof. Get rid of those first.

We try to keep the ability to post as open as possible as long as it's relating to the deal, not a personal attack or describing illegal activities etc.

Since we understand that not everyone like the same type of environment we have tools that help each member limit things they don't wish to see.

If you are using the redesigned version of the site you should notice that you have the ability to vote on posts. If a post gets x number of TDs it collapses so that it needs to be clicked on to view. (I think the TD count is 3 but they may have tweaked that recently).

Also you have the ability to put members on ignore and then you no longer have to read any of their posts unless they make FP or someone quotes them and you read that post.

Making purile comments about women's bodies and sex is NOT related to the deal. I sometimes report the comments and they are sometimes removed.

It is depressing to those of us trying to shop. And it is depressing that the comments are not always removed.

Thank you OP for having the courage to post about this.

Obviously those aren't, but those weren't the only kind mentioned in this thread and being asked to be removed.

We do appreciate hearing from the community and we do try to keep the deal threads on topic, free of things like politics, trolling etc.
Sometimes it gets in.

Not all OT banter is disruptive, sometimes a little humor is alright, but if it goes too far or is graphic descriptions of sex etc (Acceptable Use Policy can be read here) then it gets removed.

Just like Amazon reviews have some humorous ones.. that get a lot of attention for the product (think sugar free gummy bears), we don't want to make things "too sterile".

The gray area is where mods use discretion. Some members would like to have zero comments that aren't absolutely about the deal, price, merchant..
Some members would love to have a free-for-all. We aim for a balance.

If we are hearing that a lot of members think the balance is tipping then we can look into adjusting.

If you do notice it's the same member over and over, then we can look into that person's posting habits and ask them to adjust.

We hope that the ability to TU/TD posts will help keep the threads running smoothly for the membership as a whole.. if enough think a post is OT and needs to be collapsed, it can be with TDs.

* I just took a look at some of the posts you have MAd and yes some are horrible and were removed, some were just juvenile. I see that the "stress relief" thread had gotten quite a few comments.

I think it also happens in certain threads/ kinds of threads more so than just general deals.
