Newegg.com has the Polk Audio Monitor 70 Series I [newegg.com]I floorstanding speakers for $149.99. Sale ends in seven hours. Free eggsaver shipping and no tax for most people.

This is as cheap as I've ever seen them outside of small coupon codes or rebates (haven't seen the latter in YEARS).

It's been a while since I've seen a deal for this speaker.

Good stuff if you need it.

Great deal, but recently got a pair of Klipsch Icon KF-28s for $160 each from Newegg also.

Damnit all these speaker deals lately... I already had Polk monitor 50 series II,s and recently ordered the t50s and pioneer fs22 for rear and side channels... hmmmm... should I cancel the pioneers which haven't shipped yet, get these for fronts, move my monitor 50 series 2 to rear, and use the t50 as sides? Decisions decisions. I love my monitor 50s!

I've heard of a handful of people mixing the 50s and 70s with good results, FWIW.

I used own these. They do require break in good amount of power. An average AVR won't cut it. The sound quality is just ok when compared to other similarly priced towers from the competitors. I would suggest going with pioneer or Klipsch as opposed to this.

I know. I couldn't resist. Will cancel the pioneers I bought from Frys earlier today (even though it was a smoking deal) I'd rather stay all Polk!

I just bit the bullet and ordered these 70s to use with my other polks.

Now my setup will be
Front - Polk Monitor 70 Series II
Center - Polk Monitor CS2
Rear - Polk Monitor 50 Series II
Side - Polk T50
Sub - Polk PSW100

I would definitely have to disagree. I have the Monitor 60s, and a system with monitor 70s,- 70s are amazing. I've compared and listened to a lot, Tried to replace with Klipsch system, too harsh, didn't compete with the Polk 70s IMO so returned them. Unless you are spending a a grand on a $800+ on a pair of floor standing speakers, I do not think you will find much better than these. All of the new Polk speakers - T series do not hold a candle to these. Anyway, that is all.

Are you placing these floor speakers on something to raise them up above ear level? Surround speakers really should be a couple of feet above ear level.. Floor speakers aren't ideal for surrounds. Also, mixing and matching different brands and impedance isn't such a good idea.

everyone has their favorites. I've owned Polk for many, many years. Kilipsch are great, no doubt, but I love Polk. I have 4 mid end Denon and Yamaha receivers. I could biamp the 70s if I really needed to. Hell, I could biamp the 50s too.... hmmmm. Maybe I will.

Anyone have experience biamping with 2 different receivers? Should stick with same brand probably?

Yes, they will be elevated. Ideally, all speakers should be identical., but same brand so they are timbre-matched is better than different brands.

I worked at a high end A/V retailer until they went out of business.. Ultimate Electronics... for a decade... I know how to set up audio, but I've been out of the game for awhile. Lots of things have changed, but speakers.... not so much! Speakers hold their value longer than any other components in your system.

If you have a pretty good sub I wouldn't bother spending another $300 on the 70's. I had all three of the Monitor SII towers, 70, 60 and 50. 70's are best if you have no sub.

These cost me ~164 more than the pioneers I ordered earlier. They are definitely worth the 164.00 premium. Maybe I will flip the pioneers for a few bucks since I got em so cheap
Need the sub for the discrete .1 sub channel

Watch the scene in U-571 when they are getting hammered... with 4 15 500w powered subs Big Grin
