My kid is going to be a computer science major this Fall. This seems like a pretty good laptop to me 4.4 lbs, plenty of storage, RAM, etc... Thoughts?

Probably not because of the "U" which means low voltage. These soft of laptops are not powerful at processing. This laptop is kind of a mixed bag of features that don't go well together.

I have never been a CS major, but I think you would be better off getting a cheap laptop. I think he will probably break it going class to class in the first year. Most of the first year is general education requirements like math, English, intro classes. Like even a chromebook would be good for writing papers and emailing or watching videos and taking tests online... Honestly you code in plane text and can compile that code on a desktop. So yeah, I would get a chromebook for classes, and then maybe a better laptop or desktop after the first year.

plus your kid could party out, or play league of legends all day and failout till they get the hang of it.

How do the features not go well together?

I am in cs major. Recommend buy a budget laptop one around $300-400 for an i5 then add extra ssd if you like. I paid $400 for my 3yo laptop with a ssd upgrade. Do a lot of coding on plain text or visual studio. With internet, you can remotely compile or run the program on home desktop.

The U here is kind of low power. if you paid this much, i would recommend others that have higher performance than these around $1k price.

4k is just about power consuming.

This seems to be a better deal than the yoga 720 or HP X360 deals out.

I went in for one, may not keep it as I really like the Dell XPS 15. Will update soon.

Sweet... keep me updated. I was debating on buying the Flex 5 with these specs, but now I think I'm going to buy an XPS 15, base, and just upgrade the ram and storage. A little more, but better performance and reliability I assume.
