This time BestBuy has 8 TB Easystore drives for $199. From what I've read from other deals, it contains WD red drives which are super reliable.

Informative, but not helpful.

Here's some food for thought regarding backing up to external USB drives...

he failure rate of external USB drives can not be compared to internal drives. USB drives fail all the time. You can not expect them to last. They will fail.

Every drive will fail so what is your point? Externals use the exact same drives as internals. Only difference is the interface.

Let's stop these shenanigans yes? A USB and power interface to SATA and power interface is the weak point of these external units. Will they fail in their current form more often then a direct SATA to psu power Link? Yes. Can you shuck the case and directly connect the red drive and still have a USB 3.0 case for another drive for less than cost of any other decent non smr 8tb drive? Yes. Is this $10 more than the previous deals? Yes. Is it a slick deal? That depends on what continues to happen with pricing on spinning storage.... However, WD just released 10tb capacity drives, so it would stand to me to wait for at least the 180$ deal to be slick, but at $190 it would satisfy the immediate need and still be a fairly good deal.

why all the down votes? $199 with $10 gift card, not as slick as previously but still alright.

I bought one, but thinking to redo the order with a laptop trade-in which would slash $75 and make it a lot sweeter than previous deals.

$75 laptop trade-in link:

Anyone know if the $10 GC applies for in-store purchase of the drive?

Lowest sale was $180 but there was a $200 with $10 GC recently. I think it ended now so it's a straight $200 pricing.
