Previous posters have provided instructions how to unlock AT&T GoPhones for use on other carriers. You have to submit an unlock request, but if your stated reason is travelling internationally, they generally honor it.

Do you need to be att customer to request unlock code? Would they provide one if you are not?
Posts in the other thread said att would not unlock unless it's been on their service for 6 months?

Unlock Instructions:

Steps below to get unlock code from AT&T:

Steps to do after submitting request to AT&T:

- Open the email and click link in the email to confirm your request (that you previously submitted)
- Wait for your Unlock code to be delivered in email within 48 hrs

These were originally for a ZTE Android phone but the request process should be the same

I got it to work with two Android phones with no problem (the ZTE being one of them). The big concern is getting the unlock code, which you request prior to using the new device. If you have that, you should be able to unlock the phone.

Both phones I used that method for were ATT GoPhones. One was the iPhone 5S. I was able to use it on T-Mobile with no trouble, and the unlock process was even more quick than it was for the ZTE. I followed the steps until the "wait for unlock code," and got a response in 24 hours telling me what I needed to do.

I did use a made-up Gmail account, since ATT will only grant a certain number of unlock requests per year per account, and won't do it for current subscribers.

Aren't you just better off buying the VZW version for $200?

The reviews on the BB website stress that despite the listing, the VZW model is prepaid. Verizon is notorious for not unlocking prepaid phones prior to six months prepaid service, perhaps because they're legally obliged (for now) to unlock their postpaid 4G LTE phones. The ATT unlock process, at least for me, was reasonably painless.
