Is this a deal? I rather like the ones that were $10 and much smaller.

This appears to be a new version of the one they had before. It would be nice to see a side by side. I'm wondering how much bigger or smaller a unit with two AAAs is compared to a cr-123 unit. The magnet side on this one looks larger than the old version.

does anyone know of a zwave enabled speaker? or some way to integrate with amazon echo?

for example, i have a vera lite unit.
I'd like to buy this for the front door.
when door is opened and device is triggered, an announcement to a speaker (or amazon echo) would say "Front Door has been opened."

or similarly if I used my motion detectors and it detected motion at the front of the door it would say "Someone is at the door"

anyone seen or done anything like that? seems ive only heard about actions that turn on lights, arm/disarm stuff, etc.

Aeotec makes a doorbell that you can upload your own sounds to. If you set it to trigger on certain events I think it will do what you want. Here is a link to the smart things device handler for it. I'll let you decide if you're tech savvy enough to attempt it.https://community.smartthings.com...aframboise

I have that on SmartThings. Can speak through tablet or connected speaker (sonos, Samsung, etc.)

I would assume larger if they still had as much room in the case as the previous version. Honestly they could have engineered the last one to be much smaller, there was plenty of space, it's just that would make manufacturing much more expensive.

Do you really need zwave plus for that? I am pretty happy with the $10 visonic one and the $7 Xiaomi ones.

If you use the ImperiHome app to access Vera you can have it use the tablet speaker to make the announcement.

I installed a recessed model and I really liked it. Using it with my Smarthings hub to auto lock my schlage deadbolt. Don't believe the dumb instructions about needing a 11/16th bit. Use a 3/4in spade bit and it's easy to install

Bought three of the z-wave plus recessed sensors. One, quite often, will report door opened but not back to closed. Swapped it with another in the house and the problem followed so I know the magnet placement and signal are both fine. It also only does it maybe 1 out of 7 or 8 times which makes it extra frustrating. The other two I say are "solid" but then again they are on doors we open and close way less often so it's hard to judge if they all have this issue and I just haven't seen it or not.
