Op, why not get the impact? They make a great combination. This is the equivalent of their $250 kit with 2ah batteries instead of 4.

I have the saw, impact and hammer drill all in brushless. Great power and they run forever on a charge. Normally I can get a whole day out of each tool with a 4ah battery on each. The impact is seriously powerful. I have yet to stall it out on anything. Driving 5/8"x5" lags is probably the most challenging I've done so far but it drove them with ease, never got hot, never cut out. With the saw I've cut osb for hours with not much rest and never killed the battery. Haven't challenged the drill with much more than drilling holes in concrete for tapicons and it hammered holes in without even shrugging.

The 5amp battery is also not included in the LSA, correct? As I understand it, only batteries bought in a kit with tools are eligible. I really want a 5amp but don't want to sacrifice the LSA

You are correct, the only batteries with lifetime coverage are those that come bundled in a kit. I got my covered 5ah with the miter saw which is currently $400 but has been $169 to $199 in the past. http://www.homedepot.com/p/RIDGID.../206825433

Thanks for the heads up. I'll be watching for it to <$200.

I'm heavily invested in Dewalt (and already have the impact driver) and start switching over to Ridgid because of LSA. I love Dewalt tools, the ergonomics and built are slightly better than Ridgid but the LSA winsApplause

Dewalt is good stuff, although I have heard some concerns on the newer models. I got the saw and hammer drill for 135 after Christmas 2 yrs ago and the impact in April for 79. Some places were lucky enough to have a three piece set for 200 on clearance not that long ago.

Drill and impact looks like a great deal. Both for $179 with two batteries and LSA on everything. I kind of expected more traction on this. Am I missing something, because I'm ready to pull the trigger.

Not being able to add the R4512 as the free tool kills this deal for me.

I think that a lot of people are so invested in, or just plain enamored with, the red or yellow brands that they don't even look at other very viable options. But these higher end Ridgids are really very good quality tools for the price and the warranty which includes lifetime battery replacement can't be beat.

I'm getting it, just killed my gen 2 my dad handed down to me and wanted the brushless, compact, hammer drill. I really wanted the JobMax oscillating multi-tool http://www.homedepot.com/p/RIDGID-18-Volt-JobMax-with-Tool-Free-Head-Kit-R862006KN/300146406 as the freebie, but I'll have to "settle" for the impact.
