shucked is a term we data hoarders use for removing a hdd from inside an enclosure and use it directly plugged into a system or raid setup. the wd 2tb drive ealier today those can't be shucked they are hard wired to the usb port.

I believe the same exact model is on sale for the same price at newegg with promo code: EMCRHRG47 and may be a better option for those who aren't charged tax as opposed to on Amazon.

Beware. I picked up the exact model on SD via Newegg eBay site on 3-31-17 for $85 (new). It died in less than 26 hours (2464 bad sectors during its self test). Luckily I was able to return it and didn't have to pay return shipping. Between WD external drives that are encrypted by default and Seagates' failure rate I'm about ready to buy a bare drive and put it in my own case.

In looking at the Amazon Questions, it should be - there are several accounts on how exactly to do so as well.

Thinking about shucking this and putting it into a PS4. Not sure if it's going to fit however.

shuckable, but 15mm z-height; also be aware it's a SMR drive and will have very slow random writes (but normal reads)

tl;dr: no, this won't fit in your laptop or PS4
