It's been this price for weeks in store at WalMart. Castrol Edge is mostly better oil than Mobil-1. If you can get Castrol Edge (generally speaking), it's probably worth it to get that over Mobil-1 when both are the same or similar price. There are some special variants and viscosities of Mobil-1 and Castrol that make some better than others too (German Castrol for example, and Mobil-1 0W40).

I by not means claim to be an oil professional. And I could be totally wrong. But most forums I have read claim mobil 1 to be one of the better brands. Most of what I read says people prefer mobil 1 or pennzoil.

I think any name brand synthetic oil is going to be more than good for daily driving.

I did get Castrol oil from Amazon when they were on deal but I know few who only use Mobil 1 because of its Brand. This is the cheapest price I have seen obviously without rebate.

True, Walmart had that price but Amazon is matching them now. I get 2-day free shipping or $1 credit for slow shipping since I don't immediately need oil. If anyone in market for Mobil 1 brand oil, this from my oil-senses is the best deal.

That's mostly marketing and also partially due to Mobil 1 being one of the first mainstream synthetic oil manufacturers back when they first started becoming popular with the public. Their oil isn't terrible, but if you base your comparisons off of measurable parameters such as used oil analysis results, M1 doesn't perform as well as some other oils that are in the same price bracket.

Here's a $5 rebate per gallon if that helps.

these are usually the price range at Walmart nothing special, if you had the mobile 1 rebate then it would have been something special. !!

Very true. I have purchased several jugs when they run that rebate - which seemed to be quite often. Definitely the best oil-change deal you can get. I just used my last 7 quarts this week so I am waiting on that rebate too.

I'm with you on the oil change interval though. But I guess you can still change it regularly, you don't have to go the whole year (or 20k miles). I don't think I would trust that at all.
