Remember, TP-Link wifi stuff does NOT work with any other setup, including IFTTT.

If you use automation, or plan to use automation between many devices, do not purchase any TP-Link items

yes, but that is it.

Want to operate that switch from a motion sensor? Nope

Want to operate that switch from a door switch? Nope.

Want that switch to be operated when you receive an email, text, missed call, or a amazing slickdeal alert? Nope.

Yes, but for those that want it to work with Amazon Echo or Google Home, this works just fine.

I think someone here is confusing the term "home automation" and "smart device" and it's not me.

For users of Smartthings, it can work with a custom DTH and a computer/tablet to serve as a little server for the TP-Link device. Actually, not a hard set-up for people who are used to tinkering. If you don't want to tinker, get the Wemo. Its $50 but plug & Play.
