Tax brings it up to $170. That kills the deal for me.

I wouldn't hesitate too long. Lowest ever price so far*. EDIT (lowest that I got wind of. Fry's had a better price a while back for the other version with hub- per users down thread).

Just a little skeptical on seagate...had 1 fail on me a few years back and switched to WD, never have had an issue with any of those drives.

I have this and the drive so far is working well. However this is an archival drive, not for every day use. The more you use it, the slower it will become. It's made for backing things up a few times a year then adding to that back up. This is why it's so much cheaper than the other drives.

I ran a smarts test with a USB drive 2.0 and I started it on Tuesday at 9am and it finished without any errors on Saturday at noon. So you can see it's slow. Now let this be told this is a very slow USB 2.0 and that's what I wanted to test it with. A current USB 3.0 would be much faster, but I am telling you so you can see how much data can fit on it.

But then again since the purpose of this drive is to back up, who cares, as you can set it and forget it and it will back up and finish eventually.

I would be... Bought one and it had a hard scratching on arrival. Needless to say the thing was packed up and in a UPS store the next day on its way back to Amazon. I don't care how good of a price it is, if the drives aren't reliable I will avoid it. Almost every Seagate external drive I have had has failed me. Luckily able to extract the data (on 2 out of 3) via docking bays after shucking them because they were past warranty.

In for one.

I'm going to tear the drive out and throw it in my media computer.
