There was a bunch of talk about Ancestry.com in the 23 and me thread and now it's on sale for $69 beating the fathers day sale of $79 from last month.

Yes but a lot of people don't like the 23andme terms of service. Also you can get the health info for $5. See this post:

My recommendation is:
1. wait for ancestry.com kit to go on sale for $79 at amazon prime (happens a couple times a year)
2. upload results free to gedmatch, myheritage, familytreedna to get in those DBs
3. submit to promethease for $5 if you want health info

Side note: I have a "Family" prime account. Both me and my wife were able to order since we each have a account but it's linked to the family account. Not sure if that's how this is supposed to work but it did and we both got it for $69.

Bleh. I bought 5 of these on fathers day because I didn't anticipate them being cheaper. Such is life.

Get your CC to price match.

I've never had luck getting Amazon to price match and my original order was nearly a month ago now. I have never heard of calling the CC company and getting them to price match? How would that work?

Is there any way to do this test anonymously? I am curious to do it, but don't really want to be linked to my DNA out there. I already dislike that they can use my DNA for whatever they want once I give it to them...

Amazon is notoriously fickle with price matching. But credit cards are really good about it; almost all of them offer pretty robust price protection for 90 days. Just call the CC company you used to buy the kit, tell them the price dropped, and they'll transfer you. They will need some sort of proof that the price dropped, i.e. the new price, normally a screenshot works, sometimes they want to look it up themselves. Then they'll ask you to identify the date and price you originally paid, and maybe they'll ask for a receipt/email confirmation for that. They'll confirm that the product isn't one of the exception, which you could lookup beforehand by finding the terms of service for your CC's program. Then they'll ask you to send in all the info somehow, either an online form or by mail. Once it's done they'll refund you the difference. Not sure how they'll process five separate price drops, but it shouldn't be a problem.

I bought a 23andme test off the shelf at Target. It was the testing kit only, and did not include the processing for $29. Then I bought a prepaid credit card and set up a fresh Gmail account and used those and a fake name to get the processing through 23andme. On the site, don't share info for relative matches, and just download your raw data and run it through promethease for the health reports.
