I've had one of these for a year or so (the UC4 edition), still works great. Retails around $80-$100 in BB and Walmart. Battery life is really good. Some people complain about them breaking or degrading over time-- probably just mistreating them as mine look new still. Few notes:

-I don't store them by collapsing them down, I just leave them open. Takes up pretty much the same amount of real estate on my television stand. Collapsing them and using the hinges constantly may be why some people have them breaking.

-It's a proprietary dongle, so if you lose it, no more wireless. It's also fairly large which is kinda ugly jutting out from the PS4.

-If you do choose to use them wired, it gets ride of the 7.1 virtual.

-The 7.1 virtual is only on PS4, so even if you connect to PC with the dongle it won't emulate that effect.

-I have a big head. They don't hurt my head or my ears even after wearing them for a few hours.

-They may be heavy for people with small heads, IDK. Again, my head is giant.

-They get loud, there's actually an odd spot in the volume control where it's like "ehhh it could be a little louder right now" to pressing vol+ once makes it "nope now I'm deaf." I'm sure you can adjust the volume more accurately using the PS4 interface, I've just been too lazy to do so and have been suffering all of this time.

Not sure I'd categorize all the breakage on these headsets as people mistreating them. To many reports.

I would like to pick these up. Cheap quality and Sony not standing behind the product when it breaks scares me.

Had the same worries, but owned a pair for almost 2 years and no issues. Can get higher build quality for $100+ more, but can't beat the sound quality on these vs the price. Just don't stretch em out super wide when putting them on laugh out loud

can you still hear the controller when it makes a game in sound? (ie when you turn on the flashlight the controller would make a click on noise indicating its on or off)

The headset has a weak point just above the hinges, where the padding on the inside starts. Over time, if the headset needs to flex at all to accommodate your head size, it will eventually develop stress cracks along that area, eventually leading to the plastic separating. The sound is great, and it was probably at least 2 years before the cracks started forming on my headset, but I'm in the market right now for a new head set, and I'd rather take a chance that I'll find a different one without this flaw.

Not sure, if have the sound low enough could probably hear it. but if you disable the controller sounds I think they come through the headset instead.

I've had these for 2 years now - DEFINITELY worth the purchase, however I did break one of the joints, as they're plastic and flimsy, and ended up taping them up and gluing them.

I wasn't "baby gentle" or anything, but I also wasn't rage quit throwing them.

The "leather" ear stuff is coming off, much like I'd expect after heavy use.

But overall, these are fantastic headphones that let me hear in game sounds that other people don't. (Like directional voices, locators, NPC's)

On mine the wiring started to go bad somewhere and it caused intermittent mic explosions to anyone in the party. Had a friend this happened to as well.

Liked the headset, and it took a couple of years of somewhat heavy use to get to that point.

I believe by default when you have a headset enabled all controller sounds are transferred to the headset. Surely they had thought of that.

Yes. All sound is transferred to the headset including os sounds and controller sounds.
