Air New Zealand, Star Alliance member, have nice round trip airfares travelling from Los Angeles (LAX) to Rarotonga, Cook Islands (South Pacific) for $551, nonstop.

Travel Availability:
Departs LAX: Most Saturdays beginning Aug 5 thru May 12. (very few in Nov & Dec)
Returns: on Fridays thru June 1, 2018

Use dates and book it on Expedia [expedia.com], Priceline [priceline.com], Orbitz [orbitz.com] or Air New Zealand [airnewzealand.com] directly. If you used the dates and cannot get it on one site, don't give up...try another site. For example, my August dates wasn't available on Expedia or Orbitz...but it's on Priceline.

Rarotonga is the largest of the Cook Islands [cookislands.travel], a nation of 15 islands in the central South Pacific. Volcanic peaks, ridges and rainforest dominate its interior. A 32km, round-the-island road links the beaches, coastal lagoon and reefs that make scuba diving and snorkeling popular. The Cross-Island Track is a rugged hiking trail that passes 650m Te Rua Manga peak, or "The Needle."

Thanks, Flight Deal.

MSP has had a few really great deals to Europe in the past year.

And they beat ORD a lot on different locations.

I think it's better to wait for a deal on a flight on ANZ to NZ. They will stop off on the cook islands anyway and give you the option to have a stopover. You don't even have to book it in advance. After they land for the stop, they will announce that you can hop off there and catch another flight later if you want.

For anyone in the Pacific NW that's interested you can find these flights for around $800 up from SeaTac or alternately book a separate RT ticket from SEA to LAX on Delta/American for $144 making it $695.

Booked a flight for May, but after reading this, I might just have to cancel and wait. Hmm...
