I was curious why it cost so much for a 1080p projector...

Ultra Short Throw Projection
The LG Ultra Short Throw projector delivers vivid imagery within an exceptionally short distance of the projection surface. Set it just 5 inches away to get 60 inches of bright, vivid viewing, or go farther to get images up to 100 inches.

That's why... makes sense.

For in depth details.

It's a great post, and I almost jumped on it myself. Unfortunately I'm super sensitive to fan noises from projectors and this one rates higher than most. So personally I'm going to pass while thanking the OP for the great share!

Anyone know the diff between this 2017 version and last years version? Specs looks the same. Love the concept but the 1000 lumens bugs me. Need a dark room.

Lumens matter less with the lower distance. Less room for ambient light to impact PQ.

Good deal on that projector although it's all but useless since you could buy a 4k 60" tv for less
it's more about portability.

Portability and I think most people would be projecting a 100"ish image which is about 2.5x the area of a 60".

Not for your sake, but for others, I want to say that I would rather hang a projector on the wall than install a TV in the ceiling for my bedroom. Somebody should try it!
