This is definitely not for everyone, however if you have been looking at this item or are a fan of Filson items - this is the biggest discount that I've seen online (outside of potentially getting it off ebay or at an outlet).

That's a nice bag. I have a $80 Samsonite overnight bag that is similar but of less quality and more wide than long. It has served me well thus far and I wonder at what price point do diminishing returns kick in on this category of travel bag

It kicks in well before Filson's prices, I believe. That said, I love their stuff and have been fortunate enough to own a few pieces. I have not owned this one. When I'm done with mine, my kids will likely find a use for them. I hope they are well worn. My Filson pieces, not my kids. laugh out loud

Thanks, OP. Mmmmuuustttttt reeeeeeeesissssttttttt.

I can get a plain nylon duffel with the same dimensions for $10... assuming it lasts "just" 2 years, for the "sale" price of this bag I could buy 54 years worth of duffel bags, or for the original price, 100 years. Again, assuming my duffels only last 2 years every single time. If you find a nice bag that will last over 10 years for $50, or over 20 years for $100, you might be able to justify the purchase. (This does not account for style or luxury of said good, just of utility).

That's not how the world works. You pay premium for quality and the privilege of owning it. The same reason why people pay half a million for a sport car that can merely sit two persons, while the same money can buy the whole family a Mercedes for each and every one.

It's almost like I said in my post I was not speaking to the luxury aspect. I appreciate that there is status, prestige, and self-worth tied up in the attainment of luxury goods. However in terms of "quality" (which the term itself has various meanings) I assume you mean the quality of longevity, or perhaps the quality of storage space, or other such "quality", I can achieve that for far less than this bag, to the point, as the other poster said, you are at diminishing returns.
