Found this deal for an electronic handheld stabilizer that works for your smartphone and it also comes bundled with attachment to work with your action camera.

There is a negative review on the fact that if you mount your GoPro or any other action cam, it will pick up a lot of motor noise. For $137, I think it's worth a try.

I've been looking at Gimbals for a while and was debating between this one (Smooth Q) and DJI Osmo mobile. I ended up getting Osmo Mobile for a couple of reason. First, if you are on android, the Zhiyun App doesn't have many features. For Android you only the Zhiyun asistant app and you can't do Motion Timelapse video (which was something I really wanted). And the zoom is choppy and does it in steps. Instead of a smooth zoom. Yes the Osmo is more than double. But I just couldn't pull the trigger on the Smooth Q. But from the reviews I've read, if you are just looking for a steady shot, without some of the more extra features that Osmo offers, it's a great value. With that said, I heard Apple iOS devices have a better App (ZY Play) which includes Motion Timelapes and also a smooth zoom feature. But I can't say for certain if this is true. If it is true, then it's a no brainer for IOS users. But for android, you might want to think again depending on what you are looking for.

Lastly, the ZiHyun Smooth Q without the gopro mounting plate is going for 125 on amazon [amazon.com]. This comes with the case and strap. So if you don't need the Action Camera mounting plate and microfiber cloth. You can save yourself about $15.

*EDIT*
It looks like Zhiyun released a ZY Play app for android. but everyone is reporting that it is really buggy and awful. So if you willing to wait for updates and bug fixes. The Smooth Q is a bargain.

It just came out on market recently. I grabbed one of these and it's like most reviews have said so far. As a gimbal using the phone software it's good for stabilization.

The app I can't get to work on my Samsung S8+ but I all cared for was to slow down the movement.

Tracking would have been cool though.

Kind of old now but I am in the same debate but I think I am gravitating towards the Smooth Q. The Osmo looks better for all the reasons you said but you confirmed what I was thinking which is if I am just looking for a smooth shot then Smooth Q does the job.
Another factor for me is the battery life with the 26000mAH battery. Hopefully the app isn't as bad as you paint it to be Stick Out Tongue
