This model is:

KSM105GBC - tilt head, 300W, some of the gears are plastic, coated flex edge beater, burnished metal C-shaped dough hook, glass bowl and stainless wire whisk.

I would not get this model. Instead, I would get the 5 Qt model from Best Buy when it goes on sale again. It frequently goes on sale for $200.

KV25G0XSL - bowl-lift, 450W, all metal gears, coated beater, coated spiral dough hook, stainless bowl and stainless wire whisk.

Why is this one better? I am just an average user that will make protein pancakes and odd things like that randomly. My girlfriend will make batter with it... I purchased this model posted, is there something that I need to be aware of?

Well first thing is to measure the space under your cabinets. The bowl-lift models are taller and if they don't fit under your cabinets, I would get the tilt-head. But I still wouldn't get the tilt-head in the OP; I would get the Artisan model since it has a 325W motor, all of the beaters are coated and it comes with a pour shield. I would wait for the Artisan to go on sale somewhere if you want a tilt-head model.

I prefer the coated spiral dough hook to the burnished metal c-shaped dough hook - do a search, the burnished metal is not dishwasher safe and it can oxidize and then the aluminum oxide can get in your food.

The all metal gears on the bowl-lift model are more durable than the plastic ones in the tilt-head models.

The motor is more powerful on the bowl-lift model.

The flex edge beater that comes with this tilt-head model is nice though and the glass bowl vs. stainless steel bowl is a matter of preference. There is no pour shield to fit the glass bowls if you want a pour shield though.

If all you are making is batter and you aren't making bread or pasta and you don't want to buy any of the attachments, I would just get a hand mixer like this:
