That's a shitload of work to do, in order to get a battery pack that commonly goes on sale via Amazon or others for less than $20.

To be fair - no, these are different. The Dell Power Companions are meant to power a laptop, and these are ridiculously good prices (after rebate). That said, I'm still iffy as I've NEVER heard anything positive about SD rebates.

I had the exact same concern, but decided to gamble on the rebate last time for one of these. I sent the rebate off with tracking (the first time I've ever done that with a rebate) because I was worried about the total lack of positive feedback. It was actually processed pretty quickly. I haven't received the card yet, but the status moved to Payment Processing just yesterday, so it should be in the mail soon.

I did find it strange that the envelope was never signed for, and not even marked as delivered. It's still currently in "Arrived at USPS Destination Facility" status. Not sure what that's about, and it made me a bit nervous because it sat like that for a week before the rebate status updated, so I thought it was going to be a nightmare for a while. It turned out much better than I expected.

If I do a SD rebate again, I'll probably still send it with tracking. I don't want them to have any excuse to throw the envelope away and pretend like they never got it. I would not put it past SD (and/or their rebate processor) to be shady like that. I've done a ton of other 4MyRebate rebates without tracking and never had an issue, but I still don't trust SD enough.

Hi Freak4Dell,
We do indeed recommend using trackable label, and not because the processing center throws away envelopes that have just stamps, but because letters can get lost in the mail. You letter was not signed for because all the mail goes to the PO box. Next time please don't use signature confirmation as these type of letters at times get returned to sender due to not having anyone to sign for them. A simple tracking will do. If you ever have any issues we are here to help. Just email us at rebates@slickdeals.net or send a PM.

Sigh... Here we go again...

slickdeals.4myrebate.com says:

The address you entered is correct, but requires more information so we can deliver your rebate (such as APT, SUITE or BOX number). Please provide this information.

The address is correct and is on the order and have been using the same address for ages. Not sure why the rebate site is not liking it.

Meh, I went with the cheapest way to get tracking on a letter, which I believe was Certified Mail. I can't remember if that requires a signature or not, but I'm guessing it did, because otherwise it would have updated to a delivered status. Either way, it got where it needed to go, so whatever.

Frankly, every rebate recommends sending it with tracking. SD rebates are the only ones I've actually paid any attention to that recommendation on, because of the numerous negative stories. Seems quite odd that SD rebates in particular get lost so often, despite many, many other rebate submissions going to a PO Box in El Paso every day.

If you really were so concerned about USPS losing rebates, you would work to eliminate the mail-in portion altogether. Staples, Home Depot, T-Mobile, and several others have managed to make this work. Even cash back sites like Ibotta handle rebates completely electronically, so being a 3rd party is no excuse. All the purchases are online, so it's simply a matter of sharing information among your business partners, which you already have to do to verify the mail-in rebates (that is, if you even verify them rather than just flipping a coin to see who gets a rebate and who doesn't). But I'm not going to hold my breath waiting for SD to make a positive change. We all know those days are long gone.
