Citi Prestige 75,000 Sign Up Bonus Coming on July 23, 2017

+3 Deal Score
10,614 Views
Starting on July 23, 2017, Citi Prestige will come with the following changes:
  • Signup bonus will go up to 75,000 Thank You points, though it will have a high spend requirement of $7,500 within three months
  • The Citi Prestige 4th-night-free benefit will be able to be booked entirely online, and the discount for the fourth night will come off at checkout
  • The Prestige card will be metal
  • Prestige cardholders will be able to redeem points for cash at a rate of 1 penny per point

Deal is not live yet. [citi.com] It will go live on July 23, 2017.

The best feature of this card is the 4th Night Free feature. Depending on how often you travel and book hotels, it can be worth hundreds or thousands of dollars every time you use it. It's uncapped and useable on any hotel properties. Starting July 23rd, you can book the hotels through a new website so the credit (which is calculated on avg of the four nights, so basically it's 25% off 4 night total rate) will be applied directly (instead of waiting).

75,000 Thank You points is the best ever bonus on the Prestige card. While the card has a $450 annual fee, it also comes with a $250 airline credit which can be used twice during the first year (because it's per calendar year). 75,000 Thank You Points = $750 in cash or $935 when redeemed directly for airfare at the Citi ThankYou Travel Center. Or you can get nearly $1,000 in value from the bonus on a hotel redemption if you combine it with the 25% discount from the 4th Night Free.

Spending requirement is insane. 7500 in 3 months is really difficult.

woah, 7500 is indeed a bit high....highest I'd seen was 4000-4500.
i did two chase sapphire reserve spends in a couple pf months (me and wife), but i also had a higher incentive to do so (200k points, 100k each)
for those that travel often for work with personal card, however, this is easy to do

This does not seem very enticing to keep after the first year compared to the CSR, $50 less in travel credit and that only applies to airfare vs anything in the "travel" category for CSR. 4th night free hotel would be a good perk to have, but at least for me I have not really utilized hotels that much for 4 night stays. This may change in the future now that I'm much more flexible with travel/vacations for my new job. How do the hotel prices compare when booking through the Citi concierge? Do you absolutely have to book through that, or can you pay elsewhere and do a manual credit (ie submit the invoice and they will reimburse you later)?

It used to be like that and it was a pain. First you had to contact the Citi Prestige Concierge with the booking details (property, dates, room, rate) and then wait for them to book it on your behalf and get back to you with a confirmation showing everything done correctly. After that, you had to wait for the hotel charge to come through, and then the cost of the fourth night to appear as a statement credit. They are doing away with this and replacing it with a brand new website.

Last year, I went on a 2 week Hawaii vacation and originally wanted to do 3 nights in Maui, 3 nights in Big Island, and 3 nights in Oahu. Then I booked it on Citi Prestige and basically booked 4 nights in Maui, 4 nights in Big Island, and 4 nights in Oahu for same price. 3 separate bookings, and 3 nights free. Saved me about $1,400 in total.

$7500 spend is high.
I just did the citi preferred 50k offer for $4k spend.

What sucks is plastiq can no longer pay mortgage using visa cards.

That seems like it would be the ideal situation, if you are fine with packing up and changing hotels (which for $1400 and seeing different areas, I would be Big Grin)

Spend seems crazy high for the bonus... but nice improvement to the 4th night free benefit- being able to book online and get the rebate immediately

FWIW after the annual airline credit the annual fee is only $200/yr... and we have never failed to save a lot more than that with the 4th night free benefit year over year...so it continues to be highly profitable despite the AF... (unlike the Amex Plat that continues to be the "crappy" high AF card of the big 3)

Agreed.

The Citi Prestige card is the strongest of the major rewards cards in terms of hotel benefits. Amex Platinum is best for lounge access (AMEX Centurion Lounges are gold standard) and Chase Sapphire Rewards, for general points value. Points-wise, Prestige still fares better than Platinum.
