Wild Planet & Sustainable Seas Brands Canned Tuna Class Action Settlement

+3 Deal Score
3,370 Views
Purchasers of Wild Planet and Sustainable Seas Canned Tuna can claim cash benefits under the terms of a recent false advertising class action settlement. No receipt necessary.

All residents of the United States of America who, from November 5, 2011 to May 12, 2017, purchased any can of branded tuna produced by, for, or on behalf Wild Planet, including cans sold under the "Wild Planet" brand and the "Sustainable Seas" brand.

If you are eligible, you may submit a claim for a cash payment of $29. The claim amount may be subject to pro rata dilution if the total amount of claims exceeds the available settlement funds or the cost of notice and claims administration exceeds $350,000.

Both these brands were available widely and still are, on Amazon, Jet, Walmart, VitaCost, iHerb and others.

No receipt and $350,000? that works out to ~12,000 full amt claims. LOL, That will easily become 29 cents shortly since posted on SD.

it seems the lawsuit isn't about it being sustainable or not. it was about them underfilling each can on purpose

The funds for the suit are $1.7 million (minus 1/3 for lawyers) + $350,000 for administration expenses. So over 39,000 claimants at the full $29. I do expect it to eventually be lowered to the $15-$20 range though time will tell.

See the Class Notice (pdf) [wildplanetsettlement.com] for more info.

I don't understand. Every claimant gets a max of $29 even if they only bought 1 can? I can't find anywhere that specifies how many cans you can allowed to claim.

I bought it at Costco within the applicable time frame--and Costco still sells it.
