Possible Amex platinum 30k MR retention offer

I called to cancel my Amex and asked before I cancelled if there are any offers if I keep the card. The lady was super nice and said a new offer was available and offered me 30k MR if I spent 3k within 3 months. I kept the card and was given the MR right away, haven't even spent 3k on the card yet.

If you have to ask, then you obviously don't have the card and this thread doesn't apply to you.

Flyertalk has a whole thread on this with data points going back years

It's very YMMV depending on a number of factors including among others how much you spend normally on the card.

I got 15k for 2k spend on a card I don't use a ton but do use a bit.... and since I got the renewal in shortly BEFORE they jacked the AF up another 100 bucks that was, barely, enough to be worth keeping the card.

If they don't offer better next year I'll drop it, because apart from getting into one of the very few centurion lounges it doesn't really do anything that other, better, premium cards do for me.

(My SPG card on the other hand they offered 10k points with no required spend to keep it, which is a no-brainer given the modest AF)

SPG card is the best. 7,500 points to refer. i've already got like 35k points from that alone this year. it's awesome.

I was fortunate and got a $300 retention offer. No spend requirement. Made me super happy and I couldn't say, "yes" fast enough. Next year, the $550 price tag kicks in and I'm not sure if the love will last. haha.

My renewal is in September. I'll definitely try this because with the increased annual fee for added uber rides, which I don't use, I will be canceling if they don't offer something. Thanks OP! I probably wouldn't have thought to ask.

When is your card up for renewal? Is it this month. My card renewal is September, thinking whether to call now or wait till september

My card was up for renewal at the end of June. I called the day before it was set to renew.
