But:

Customers who own their own SB6121 or SB6141 modems can continue using these models with their Internet services. The only versions of SB6121 and SB6141 being declared End of Life are modems being leased from Comcast.

despite being DOCSIS 3, the 6121 only has 4 downstream channels. Once Blast goes 150 mbps you'll unlikely be able to get the full speed(it'll work, but you won't get full speed). The 6183 will likely be good for a while.

I love these threads, as depending on how long it goes, there may be dissenting opinions about buying this modem by folks who wouldn't use this if it was free.

Main reasons to buy:

- If you're on a plan under 100MBPS, this is PERFECT, as the modem won't hinder your speeds
- Many ISPs are now setting their minimum plan at 50MBPS, so this will avoid having to rent a modem
- Rent a modem? Those are usually what? $5 - $10 a month? This is a flat $13ish depending on taxes! You're done renting!
- Installation is SUPER simple. Just replace it and call your ISP to give them the MAC address (or use self-service for some ISPs)

You're a cot dang fool if you pass on this and you fit within the parameters of my bullet points. This will NOT work with any DSL companies, but this was already covered in the wiki.

You'd have to purchase a router with this modem.

I have this one and use it with Comcast (75Mbps plan). As long as its your own modem, Comcast will support it. I've not been getting calls asking me to upgrade it (probably because its mine and not theirs).

Works great for my needs.

I bought it for $45 (refurbished) and hence this would be a great deal.

Thanks OP!

Replacing my DOCIS 2 motorola

Comcast has been hounding me for years to upgrade it. They tell me I'm not getting my full internet speed.

Yet these are the same people who turn off my service when I download a TB in a month...

Wish I could find a deal like this for FIOS. If I didn't give a crap about on demand I could ditch it, but I actually use on-demand a fair amount. But no doubt Frontier is charging $5-10 a month for their "free" router.

If you get 2 of these and connect them in series, you get way faster speeds. Read it on the internets.
