I'm looking for a good starter 3d printer. Is this good? I've been told not to get plastic framed...

Yeh it's a good one to get your feet wet. Don't worry about "plastic sides" it's still metal rails inside that handles the extruder.

MP select also has a good entry level printer as well.

The software that comes with the M3D crashes and at one point ran the hot end into the bed. M3D might be good if you use 3rd party software but I didn't try that. I recommend the Wanhao or Maker Select v2 just for the print bed size alone.

$200 can get you a lot of 3D printer these days. That would not be this one.

It's OK, not awesome. It was awesome for it's day since it broke the $200 barrier as a decent printer. But it's day has come and gone. It's no longer the cheapest, it's never been better than OK print quality and it's not even the best value for print quality at the price. Many other printers are as cheap, print better, printer faster and have a larger build volume.

Note that 1 spool of filament = 225g, so 5 spools are a bit over 1kg ... about what you would get on Amazon for $15

Some names of printers that I don't have to build would be great.

I listed some recently in one of the other 3d printer threads.

Personally, I'd get a Anycubic Kossel $200 or under. Workhorse of a machine.

I know some people without skills can't deal with kits so for them, how about this. Before said people complain "But that's a kit!!!!!!!!". It's a "kit" of 6 modules. You just snap them together. Even said people's printer princess requires some assembly.
