Good band for the money. I had 1 and 1S before. Again good bang for the buck.

Some of you may find the band not counting the steps at all. It happened to me, I looked around the internet, it started working the next day and realized (or guessed based on my professorial background) the possible reason:

The heart of this unit is an accelerometer made of a process called micro machines. Physically, it is a unit made of microchip like a microcomputer except here it is a tiny (micro) mechanical part to capture acceleration (dv/dt or d^2x/dt^2). So, it is possible that the tiny part which is supposed to move inside is not moving or sticking. Give it a kick, literally and it will start kicking Smilie

I notice the number of steps is some 30% less than my 1 or 1S. Who knows which one is really correct. First of all, note that the unit measures the hand movement (where you are wearing) and not the feet. If you are involved in an activity where your hands are not moving (like walking in a store holding the card), it is not going to register any. On the other hand if you are an youngster and use a particular hand more often (like when you have no GF shake head ), you will see big (or bigly as DT would say) numbers. So, keep swinging Wink

I use it more for alarm, notifications etc.

My thoughts on owning this for around a year as well as the original MiBand 1 for around a year or two.

This little band is pretty capable, battery life for me is around 3 weeks but should be around a month + for most people. (Ill explain why mine is lower). Its ip67 waterproof (I've swam with it on but wouldn't do it regularly), tracks steps relatively well, tracks sleep very well, and has a HR sensor (mine is hit or miss, but if you need a good HR monitor youre not spending $20.) It also notifies you of incoming calls/texts if you want it to and has a vibrating silent alarm. It doesn't work for me because im a heavy sleeper, but for most people it should be fine. For $20 thats already a decent amount of things that it can do, but third party apps can make it do more.

Theres a couple of apps on play store (not sure about apple store) that make it a lot more versatile. I use a music control one which lets me next, play, back, etc. Super useful especially if you don't have a car with BT built in. The app is called miband2 MC or something along those lines and its free. Theres also a notification app that costs money but lets you customize a lot of different things like a FB icon for FB notifications, gmail envolope for emails, etc.

Build quality is not great, but expected for $20. After a year mine has held up pretty well, but just today a very thin plastic sheet that is physicaly inside the band to help it keep its shape popped out and the MiBand doesnt fit well in the wrist band with it. It seems pretty easy to just glue back in, but kind of tedious and annoying. Also, your screen WILL get scratched. Just a week after buying it i noticed small scratches, presumably from brushing walls and stuff like that. Its bearable, but some people will be turned off buy it.

If you're on a budget and want a fitness band thats minimalistic in looks and function, buy it. If you want something to show off or something with more functionality look elsewhere.

Still haven't gotten what I ordered a month ago from them. Good price though. Won't order till I receive 1 of my 2 orders at least.

Last time, I paid a little extra for fast shipping and it came in less than 2 weeks. It's a great little fitness watch. I gave it to my 10 year old for her birthday, and she loves it. She's had it for two weeks now and it still has 50% battery left from the first charge. I can't comment about notifications, but for a watch, steps, and heart rate it seems to work pretty well. I went ahead and ordered another for my other daughter when her birthday comes. I can wait on the free shipping this time. There are a lot of extra custom bands on ebay for $1-2.

It took about 2 months for mine to arrived but it's a real one. I am using mine as a silent alarm and I am loving it.

I want to get this for my mil. Is it any good without a smart watch? She wants to use it mainly for keeping track of her Steps. Also, what else can it do without a smart phone (assuming the answer to the first question is a YES)

This thing is reasonably good at tracking steps, as good as most other smart bands. You at least need a smart phone to install apps very first time. After that it can track steps, distance, calories and heart rate, time and date without ever using smart phone (for current day only). You might be able to use alarm also. But it's smart phone app offers a lot more functionality, ability to change settings and also preserves and compare historical info.
