Reading the newegg reviews there seems to be a lot a reliability issues. Looking for a long term solution not just half a year.

I have had this particular LaView system for 2 years and am happy with their performance. I did have one issue which was addresssed asap. I may pick another set up.

That said I prefer blue iris over the LaView user interface.

How good is the mobile view? That is one of the most important feature for me since I would be watching my cameras on the go.

I dumped the nvr and paired with blue iris. The laview was just not reliable enough and very funky remote setup

For what it's worth, LaView uses HikVision as their OEM and they do back their products. My LaView kit is still running strong and it's been on 24/7 in the attic, the only downtime being blackouts or tripped circuit breakers. Though I agree that the NVR has a pretty bad UI.

Wrong.
It is NVR which means NETWORK video recorder, which means ETHERNET, which means POE.
And POE does not correlate with HDMI. Considering I have one of these systems at work and one at home, I can confirm that they are POE *and* they have HDMI.
Get your facts straight!

Mobile view is great!
If configured properly, upon running the app, it loads your view preferences PLUS the quality from the last view.
I have mine set up on the balanced feed which makes up for low mobile internet speeds. Gives me enough to know what's going on. If I need a more detailed view, I pick the camera, and I kick it into HAD mode and it's super clear. I can zoom in and still see the writing in magazines on the coffee table of my waiting area. I can see clients' faces and computer screens of my employees! It's great.
(I convinced my buddy to install this for his home, and he has FiOS fiber at his house, so he has ALL his screens on HD streams with no hiccups and he loves his system!)

For those wondering: if you want to have all 6 cameras on one system and to have them all record in HD, I definitely suggest getting a 4TB WD Purple drive to store all that stuff. Even then, you're looking at a max of 30 days of saved footage.
I have 5 cameras set up in my office, all on highest HD settings, and it stores for about 29 days. Figure 6 cameras will get you around 3 or 3.5 weeks of high quality storage on a 4TB HDD. Hope that helps!

Nvr has room for two Sata hard drives. If you need to record more, just add a second drive.

Two questions: Has LaView released a firmware update to this model to allow email notifications?

Can you use any color HD with these?

I picked up the LaView LV-KN988P84A4 last year on 7/20 and have been unable to get email notifications for motion detection. In all, I'm happy with the purchase. The mobile view is solid and reliable. I monitor a system from 400 miles away with minimal issues. One camera recently went dark but a rat could have chewed through my cable and haven't had time to inspect it. I paid $400 for the 4-camera set up with no HD so is say this is a good deal.

Bought it last time it was on sale (kit with 2 4MP cameras) 7 years old HD (1080) monitor works just fine. Installed new firmware few weeks ago. Only way to get the email notification was to set it to use gmail account - nothing else worked.

I bought this last time as well, when it was on sale over Black Friday w/ 4 cameras. Extremely happy with it. I've owned 4 DVR security systems over the years and I'm EXTREMELY happy with this one.
The mobile app works well, I can stream HD video of my house from anywhere in the world. HD zoom is VERY impressive (as someone stated above...) you can see what your kids are doing on their iPads from afar. Also was able use the spare channels to connect to my wireless FOSCAM IP cameras on the same network, so I'm able to view all the cameras in the LAView app, as well as control the PTZ IP cams, etc. DVR/NVR also records the IP CAM video. Pretty amazing.

I just bought a second one on this deal to get the six cameras. The cameras are about $80-100 bucks each if you buy alone, so this is a pretty smokin' hot deal. Compare these to the new POE systems on the LA View website, this is at least 1/2 that price.
