Patriot Torch SE 256GB 2.5" SSD [amazon.com]$62 @ Amazon

Note: Note: Ships 1-2 months - still a good price if you don't need it ASAP.
  • Model: PTS256GS25SSDR
  • Sequential read speeds of up to 560MB/s and sequential write speeds up to 545MB/s
  • Believe this drive uses MLC not TLC

I don't have much experience with Patriot SSD - only for their RAM. I've had good success with their RAM.

I've had the Patriot inferno since the days when it was $1 per GB.... It's still working to this day, its no Samsung but it does the job. For the price, this is a no brainier for those that need an SSD.

This is a DRAM-less SSD, which means it won't perform well for enthusiasts.
http://www.tomshardware.com/revie...833-7.html

From Tom's hardware: "For most of us enthusiasts, we shouldn't even consider DRAMless SSDs with planar NAND. It's true that the drives are faster than a hard disk drive, but when you lean on them with a slightly elevated workload, they can stall, stutter, and deliver a worse user experience than you would get with a spinning mechanical disk."

Also without DRAM the drive's lifespan is significantly reduced. Down to as little as a year.

Seems like the reviews I can find show short write life.

After being alerted to this thread I was quite exited ... hoping that SSD prices were finally coming down. I was excited until I read this:

"Usually ships within 1 to 2 months"

There is no way I am going after this mirage of a deal. 1 to 2 months?

Seems like reliability of this one is suspect, I don't like that it's DRAM-less either like was mentioned before.
