Kaspersky Free Antirivus

Its a slimmed down version of internet security and supposed to be lighter on resources. Good deal for those that only use the antivirus features including myself.

Kaspersky Free is a free application designed to protect your computer against malicious programs. Each type of threat is handled by a corresponding application component. Enable and disable components independently in order to configure the application. Kaspersky Free comprises:
File Anti-Virus, which protects the computer file system.
Mail Anti-Virus, which checks inbound and outbound mail for viruses and other malicious programs.
Web Anti-Virus, which intercepts and blocks scripts on websites should they pose a threat to your computer. With Web Anti-Virus enabled, all traffic is controlled and dangerous websites are blocked automatically.
IM Anti-Virus, which maintains security while using instant messaging applications.
Anti-Phishing, which checks whether web-addresses are on the list of phishing websites.
On-Screen Keyboard, which prevents malefactors from intercepting information that the user enters with a standard external keyboard.

Limited functionality, but does the basics.

Download link:

sorry for some reason, link just redirects to Kapersky home page, but that is the URL for the download link. You may have to manually type in the URL to reach the link, but it's definitely there.

Note: availability may be limited initially to US, Canada and many Asia Pacific countries.

Kaspersky Free will start rolling out in the U.S., Canada, and "many of the Asia Pacific countries" today, July 25, for Kaspersky's 25th anniversary, before rolling out to the rest of the world over the coming months. At the time of writing, however, the announcement post's link to the Kaspersky Free pager edirected to Kaspersky USA's homepage.

Usually, I do the opposite, if I am in country A, I would use anti-virus software from country B, vice versa. I already know all of them are getting some info from me at some point. Since I am nobody and I am not a gov employee, there is not much the foreign company could do with such info. However, companies from the country that I am staying at, that is another story...

On your computer? Hardly. But a so called anti virus program can scan your files much easier.
