Are the 60GB ones the launch ones with backwards compatibility? Or did they release a 60GB later that didn't have BC? My launch 60GB died a year or two ago, but would be nice to have the PS1+2 hardware BC again.

Launch 20 and 60GB had full hardware back compat. Later fatties (40/80) had software emulation only.

$40? Wow. I have a 60GB in my basement right now. It yellow lighted Frown

I wanted to fix it, but never had any luck. Lost some gave saves too. I wish I could get it working. Would be a nice secondary entertainment system as well as some PS2 and PS3 games the kids would still enjoy.

So I was really into each generation of PS3s and there are two 60GB bc version. There's the Motorstorm bundle that's 1st gen and later MGS (Metal Gear Solid) edition. The MGS version is physically lighter (I had both, I weighed them) and produces less heat. I still have a working MGS where the Motorstorm version had YLOD long ago. I forgot the details, but I think MGS edition you can tell from back in the code somewhere. Good luck.
