There are negatives and positives of 4k panels. With the 4k panel in this dell they are not real 4k and you have scaling issues. I do virtualization so an 1080p HD panel is perfect.... plus less reflection off the screen.

I do as well.. maybe if this was further discounted than the above price I might have considered it.

True. However, I'm concerned about the ghosting issues with FHD panels. Are you experiencing this with yours?

What do you mean by they are not true 4K?
I believe this panel is the best panel on any laptop you can find.

Although there are fake 4k panels the ones used on both XPS and Alienware are the real deal. You can google it yourself

I think the OP meant 3840x2160 versus 4096x2160.

It comes to $1590 if you add on the optional 4K touchscreen. How does that price compare?

Can you please explain what do you mean by They are not true 4K panel? This is a new information to me and I have seen a tons of reviews about XPS 15 4K Version and used one for some times and they felt like real 4K display when i compared it with my Acer 4K IPS Monitor or Yoga 720 15" 4K.
The scaling issue in some applications are not any XPS issue, that is common to any 4K panel which are 15.6" or smaller.

I think what they're referring to is RG/BW PenTile matrix being "false" 4k. However, the sidebar on /r/SuggestALaptop [reddit.com] lists the Dell XPS as true 4k.
