Mac software : Parallels 12 Student Edition $39.99 from apple.com

I needed Parallels for work and searched high and low for a legit key (I don't trust bootleg software with my work stuff). Student edition requires a student email to get the license key which then gives you all the standard features of the $80+ version BUT Apple.com seems to have made a mistake and does not verify your student .edu email. I bought this already and activated and it works perfect, nothing says student edition in the software when you activate it and all the features are there compared to my friends Parallel 12 standard edition. If you need VM software, hop on it before Apple fixes the student discount.

Also a free alternative is Virtual box, but the free virtualization is too slow for my needs. This software also converts virtual box machines so you don't have to reinstall.

Nothing ... you are supposed to have a .edu email to get the student edition which turns into a regular edition once you activate. But apple forgot to require .edu email

More info here - as quoted from the parallels site "A Student Edition license is always a full license. "

That link requires .edu email to buy the software. Through apple.com you don't need .edu email

SamSThe real question... how long will macOS support Parallels 12?
I think he or she is confusing Parallels' dominance in the market and their reluctance to update older software in favor of selling the update as a new version as the fault of macOS. Then again, they have to make money somehow.

Exactly. In 2 years we'll have macOS 10.14, will Parallels 12 even support it? Seems unlikely?

Parallels 10 still works with the current macOS , that is over 3 years old ... not sure what point you are trying to get at ?

But Parallels 9 does not support macOS Sierra? Not trying to make a point, just trying to understand realistic expectations for when they'd drop support for the latest macOS, seems like about 3 years.
