How does this sound quality compare with other brands, such as korg? What constitutes price premium

This is a solid, quality piano action for people who are picky about piano actions. You'll want to get the stand to go with it. It's also three-pedal and half-pedal compatible if you invest in the RPU3 pedal unit. Folks might be put off by the color though.

Yes, the color is the only reason why I'm not going with it. Well, that and the lack of bundled stand.

Everything is impressive about Roland DPs except the piano sounds. Roland should marry Yamaha and have a baby, and maybe call it 'Kawai'.

Can you hook up an effects pedal to this, like a wah pedal or a loop station?

Been waiting for a good deal in the 1k to 2k price range. Upgrading from a worn out Yamaha P80. Dont need to travel, so was looking at Yamaha Arius and heavier clavinova types. Feel is most important, then sound processing. Any advice? Should I jump on this?

The FP-50 is an impressive keyboard, and while the $1,200 price tag made it a challenge, at this price it's a no brainer. The piano action and sound are superior to competing products from Yamaha and Kwai, plus the SUPERNaural sound and sampling are remarkable. It's a bit on the heavy side, but extremely sturdy. The built-in sound is also very good, and also has the usual sockets for connecting to a sound system as well.

Those pedals would be hooked to the audio out so literally anything with audio out can be hooked up to a loop pedal... Also what would you hook up a wah?
