Costco 20% off T-Mobile phones YMMV (NO EIP)

I am new at this but my local Norwalk, Lakewood and Signal Hill Ca locations all have informed me they will be selling T-Mobile devices at 20% off. The reason for this is that Costco no longer offers EIP plans for T-Mobile so just be aware you can save a lot of money but you will have to pay upfront.

You aren't supposed to be able to, but YMMV on wireless employee checking your membership.

This isn't a good deal, especially on flagship-end phones that T-Mobile runs promos such as B1G1, etc. Just look at a recent Costco promotion: iPhone SE for $150 after a Costco cash card ($400-250.) Now, the same SE will theoretically be $320 at best.

Well T-Mo is opening a ton of stores and increasing cell so at least they are investing in what I care about most. Must not make that much after commissions are paid out.

In my experience, shopping for T-Mobile service at Costco has been vastly superior than shopping at T-Mobile stores. For one, I haven't seen Costco/MW employees try to attach add-ons without permission. SIM cards for new lines at T-Mobile: $30 with very little room to budge. At Costco, there are (were?) no activation/SIM fees, and a $25 bonus cash card. Plus, you get free extra accessories at Costco. May be crap, but T-Mobile doesn't give anything.

But, killing EIPs and requiring full payment upfront will not do well. Maybe it'll be good for the small niche of people buying phones when there aren't any deals going on, but you don't even get an immediate unlock paying (Costco's) full price.

Costcos participation in tmo promos have always had costco specific details, not having eip may end promos, but may not

a Costco founder just died, i think he had said hot dogs would be 1.50 as long as he's around, 2.50 hot dogs prolly coming next

From what I recall, phones get rung up on the front end registers, so you will definitely need a membership (or a cash card if you want to play it that way, but then you will only be able to pay the balance with a debit card or cash if your cash card doesn't cover it).

I was told at a northern California Costco that they are going away from EIP for T-Mobile very soon and will have discounted phones than what you would normally find in T-Mobile stores.
I was looking at the Galaxy s8 and I was told I should probably wait if my Nexus 6p was still going strong.
The rep had told me that they'll have all kinds of phone's not just Samsung and Apple, all, including lg, the pixel etc.
