have a few Q's:
How long do you think these monitors last?..
Is it better to go with off brand that use same panels brand new or refurbs from a more reputable brand.?

I believe the panel in this is an Achieva Shimian (same panel used in old Apple Cinema displays). You can look up the specs at tftcentral. I have had a version of the same panel (also from Monoprice) for ~4 years now. Still works fine and displays a very nice picture.

One huge drawback to the Monoprice version of this panel is a complete lack of backlight adjustment. Changing the "brightness" doesn't actually change the brightness--it has one setting: retinal combustion. It also puts off a lot of heat and has noticeable input lag for gaming and has some backlight bleed (but almost *all* cheaper 27" IPS have those problems). Oh, and a comically huge bezel with a cheap stand (but VESA mounting bracket, so you can change the stand).

No idea on the reliability of a refurb in this case, unfortunately. The panel itself is pretty solid, but there's really no way to know where Monoprice cut corners on other components to bring the price down. I know it sounds like I'm ragging on it, but I personally think this is a pretty decent deal for 1440p IPS, it just has its drawbacks.

Got this last week, it came doa. Not just me but several of us, too. Monoprice accepted RMA and sent me the refund label, so no hard feelings there though... wondered what happened to the last batch. Im going for $250 acer just to be on the safe side.

Just far warning, I ordered a couple of the refurbished 30in ones a couple of months ago and it didn't come with anything besides the monitor. No cables, power cable, stand. Contacting them is a lost cause, emailed a bunch of times and submitted multiple RMA requests and no response whatsoever. I ended up buying my own stand and cables but at that point I'm not saving that much money anymore. Will be skeptical about buying anything besides cheap cables from them from now on
