It was also said in previous threads that Verizon was locking these after they were purchased and used on other providers without fulfilling usage on Verizon first. YMMV.

These are no good since they can't be unlocked.

Verizon postpaid phones have to be unlocked on the GSM bands (due to some FCC agreement I believe) and not sure if that would apply to phones specifically marketed as "prepaid".

Rsim 11+ will unlock these on iOS 10. Not sure about the future. Check the previous thread for more info.

I believe it does but Verizon disagrees with me and they lock their prepaid phones until you pay the required ransom to Verizon prepaid.

Did you really read the other threads? Verizon will NOT unlock these (including the one I wasted my time with).

ultimately apple is the one that screwed us as they did verizon's bidding with the server activation crap. in fact it was likely apple's screw up that created the debacle in the first place. as they say "it takes 2 to tango"

it was actually that whole thing which finally pushed me over the edge and i decided to ditch apple for good. while they were within their right (as was verizon), i think once the phone is purchased that should be the end of it for them and too late to make changes. the retroactive locking crap b/c apple devices require server activation, was what did it for me. i was already contemplating it and what apple did made the decision easy. since i have the choice, i am not going to willingly reward apple for that kind of behavior by continuing to purchase their products (not like i make an impact, just saying)

i pounced on the google pixel $125 off deal, with the free good daydream VR headset. despite being an iphone user since the iPhone 4 days, i couldn't be happier. now it's just a matter of finding a decent LTE tablet that rivals my iPad 9.7". i hope google releases a Pixel C with LTE in the near future
