Hahhaha. Loved how you killed the so predictable conversation before it even started with one line at the end! Only serious buyers will come here now. Rest will keep their opinions to themselves. Lol.

Yes it's an anemic dual core i5.

With 16GB and a newer SSD it would be plenty peppy for most tasks.

I'll still hold onto the quad core i7 until something meaningful to upgrade to is released.

EDIT: The memory is soldered to the board on this model. The HDD is replaceable.

Ram and hdd are soldered to the board. 2012 mac mini are the last ones you could upgrade. And the Ivy Bridge i5 in the 2012 is actually faster than the Haswell i5 they put in this...only thing faster is the onboard graphics and the wifi. Overall, I'd look to buy a used older generation one, especially if you can snag one of the i7 quad cores like you have.

How is the HDD soldered to the board? Does it not use a standard 2.5" HDD?

It's not. This has a 2.5" 7mm SATA HDD.

HDD is soldered? No, it's not. Even the PCIE flash drive models aren't soldered.

What? No. There is not a single Mac that has the hdd soldered to the board.

You're correct, the RAM is soldered on board on the 2014 models. That was an unfortunate oversight on my part.

But yes, the Late 2012 2.3 or 2.6GHz i7 is what you really want. I bought mine on CL a few years ago after a few weeks of waiting for the right one to pop up.

i'm looking for one too but I just started and have no idea what a good price for the 2012 models are. On CL and Ebay they're spread across 500 to 800 so it would really help if you can share the price u paid or what u think would be an ideal rate now. (2.3 or 2.6 doesn't matter)

You should also look at the mid 2011 i5 2.5GHz Mac Mini, it has a decent processor and discrete graphic's (Radeon HD 6630M). Id say any of the Mac Min's from mid 2011 through 2012 are the real bargains.

However finding one at a good price is tough, I've been looking for 2-3 weeks now and most people are asking way too much. Price's range from $300 - $600 or more. eBay seems more expensive than CL maybe due to the bidding war at auction close. But I have seen a few nearer the price I'd like to pay. If I could find a clean Mid 2011 for $200 I'd jump on it.

but anything before 2014 doesn't support 4k right?
