Tello PayAsYouGo Policy Change - Activity Every 3 mo

With the help of this & the other forum I had switched from Ringplus to Tello PayAsYouGo service when RP service was cancelled in May.

At that time the policy was an activity within 6mo to keep your balance. I do not use the phone as I have a different service, and this is a backup

I was just checking the account and noticed a few things:
- Balance has gone down to $6.xx... 30day activity is showing a SMS.
- Checking FAQ policy has changed beginning Sept 1 2017 - It now requires activity every 3 months to keep the account active and keep the balance. I did not receive a notification from Tello regarding the policy change, and I wanted to make others aware in case you may have not received the notification, and if you do not want to loose your # or balance.
I did notify Customer service that I had not received the policy change notification in the chat and there was no response regarding why I did not receive a policy change notification.

You are blessed if you really have 0 activity on your account. Does a junk SMS that comes in and charged you $0.01 count as activity??

I get on average 2 junk sms PER DAY on that line.

Here's the terms under their Help Center:

Q: Does my Pay As You Go credit expire?

A: Starting September 1, 2017, if you don't use the service for 3 months, the credit will expire and the Tello service will be disconnected. Otherwise, the balance and your number have unlimited validity as long as you call, text or surf the web.

I used to get junk SMS. I later ported my other ATT phone number to tello. The Junk stopped.
Looks like most of the R+ or Tello numbers are spammed.

Both of my numbers were previously with RingPlus, no spam on either one, must be lucky.

This is a great change for users who intend to use tello for emergencies only. I set up the automate reminder once every 73 days to text each of my two lines to keep the service alive. The 11 dollar credit per line will likely last for 4 years judging by my current usage.

This is almost better than the R+ free plans - no ads and same flexibility of the prepaid service.

Tello Customers: Can you verify if it is possible to forward calls TO google voice?
Why? I have a legacy number that cannot be ported to google voice.
Thanks!

Just got tello email with some tease. I do recall them saying something about a surprise but that was months ago.

Incoming news from Tello!

We are planning a few important updates for your plan. It could be more text, more data or minutes... stay tuned to catch the news first!

Yeah, my plan changed to Unlimited text free. At first I was paying 2 bucks for text and 4 bucks for data. My next scheduled payment is 4 bucks for unlimited text and 200MBs of data, and voice is pay as you go. Personally, I look at this as Unlimited 64Kbs of data and unlimited text for 4 bucks.

yes, nice to see added value instead of price increases. http://blog.tello.com/news/tello_...wn_prices/

I need to make some calls but I'm not sure they really enforce the 3 month rule.

It doesn't look like you can renew the plan ahead of time to roll data over to the next month anymore - at least with the grandfathered $4 for 200MB plan.

While it appears that they've grandfathered in the $4 rate for 200MB of data for now, the new 200MB data plan with unlimited texts is now $7 instead of $4 for the data + $2 for 200 texts. That makes it seem like I won't be able to temporarily cancel or change my grandfathered plan without a jump in price.

While the $2 decrease in price due to the grandfathering is nice, the loss of flexibility and the loss of rollover ability has made this improvement a downgrade in my opinion.

Interesting, I didn't realize you could rollover the data.
