There is a vertical bar attached to the back inside of the lid. Pull the pin which connects that bar to the lid, pull the bar up, and jamb it in position. Then you should be able to open the drawers with the lid closed.

I bought 4 of these last year in two orders. I believe that I bought 2 for $80 and got $25 in points and turned around and did the same for the next 2 but used the points from the 1st order. This is the best price they have ever been but it appears there are no SWYR dollars back on these. I use these as workbench drawers since they are shallow. Mine never move. Only annoying thing is you have to open the top to open the drawers but it should be like that since this is a toolbox and not a workbench drawer like I use it. These things are such good quality I am not even sure how they afford to make them and ship them for free and make any money at 40 bucks.

*Post right below this explains how to get around the drawer issue.

With drawers this small that hold such little weight, ball bearings aren't that useful. The drawers open easily for years, in my experience.

I have one of these and drawer locks broke within 6 months. This would be good for garage/shed storage but wouldn't travel with it.
