American Express Platinum Card - Earn 60K MR / Spend $5K / $550 Fee - YMMV

$550.00

Hello All,

I do not qualify for this deal myself because I had the Amex Plat card in the past, but I keep getting offered it upon logging into my account for the past few days now. I even got a mailer a couple weeks back, which I tossed. I called up Amex to see if I would qualify for it again, but due to their rule of Ones Per Life deals, I do not qualify for it.

60,000 MR points upon spending $5,000 in the first 3 months of card opening.
Amex now offers an Uber credit, but with that also comes a higher yearly price tag of $550. I do remember reading somewhere a while back that military members get the AF waived, so perhaps it is still the case and if so, this is a super awesome deal for you guys!

Hopefully the below link works for the public and is not just specifically for me, but in case it does, YMMV has been added to the title.

Be gentle as I do not post all that often and this may be my 3rd deal post Smilie

One per life for AMEX Plat? What's so great about this card that you only get once in a lifetime opportunity? I haven't read all the perks, but the CSR is hard to beat.

Agreed. I just cancelled the CSR because i dont want the high price tag, but I do agree that it is an awesome card. I just dont do traveling and other stuff to really utilize the CSRs benefits.
As for the Amex Plat card, all Amex cards are ones per life time bonuses. You can apply for the card if you've had it in the past, but you only qualify to receive the introductory bonus once per life.

Yep, got 60K for the Plat and 50K for the PRG, but threw those out too because I already had the cards in the past, but hopefully someone can benefit from this offer Smilie

It was my understanding that you should not apply for a plat card unless its the 100K offer since its once per lifetime now.

Also, wouldn't the annual fee essentially cancel out the bonus? I feel like ive seen much, much better plat offers in the past. Maybe even with waived annual fees.

Just got the PRG 50K MR after 1k spend and waived first year AF. seems like a much better deal.

5K spend and $550 fee for only 60k MR seems like a bad deal to me.

The 100k plat offer is the holy grail of amex offers. thats about the only one you should consider applying for if you can ever find it/get it.

Agreed, but since the 100K is pretty rare, i personally have not seen one in 2 years I think. 60K would be the next best thing at this point.
For $550, you get 60K, plus you get $100 for Global Entry, $200 for other travel related reimbursement which can be used for other things as well (except MPX app unfortunately), plus a bunch of other benefits. If you apply now, you technically would get $400 in travel reimbursement if you decide to cancel next year.

60,000 x 0.013 = $780 (and thats if its at $0.013 per point)
+
$200 for 2016
+
$200 for 2017
+
$100 global entry
+
~$200 in Uber rides

So not as good as the 100K deal, but still a decent deal

Got the 150k offer in the mail. Had to spend 15k tho... Was easy as I just bought gold coins from ebay thru apmex and even resold it back to them and made some small profit...

Yeah but thats making a lot of assumptions, lots of us cant utilize the global entry since we already have it and lots of us live in an area with no Uber.

I know the 100k offer was around multiple times in the past 2 years. Id advise anyone here to wait on one of those offers.

IF you absolutely must have an amex plat I guess this is an OK deal. Again, the AF is going to cancel the majority of the benefits out unless you can benefit from everything.
