Miracast devices can be used without Wi-Fi and just mirror what's on your screen. I use it when traveling or when at work. I use a chromecast at home.

Pretty much, but without some of the bells and whistles the Chromecast has!

I think $16 for a refurbished is a better deal and is still active.

Optimum cable has an app that lets you stream your cable tv to your laptop, tablet, etc Does anybody know if this will allow you to broadcast that content/app to a tv? I'm trying to get broadcast tv in a room currently not wired, and that Optimum app blocks the use of Chromecast.

I wonder if it is possible to use this as a main display. This means that there will be no way to pair the device after initial setup because of this play will not be available until this device pairs. After initial setup of course, will it Auto detect and pair?

Anyone know if this is v1 or v2?

Edit: Looking at the pics on the website, appears to be v1.
