New address, New customer, No old customer at this address. = Rejected.
Called, and they wanted $130/yr. Even their own website has a better deal than that (barely).

Those a-holes at LA Times just sent me a postcard saying that they're changing everyone's subscription to $1 per week, and will shorten everyone's prepaid subscription.

So $9 only covers 9 weeks before they end your subscription.

Please note: If you have prepaid beyond Dec 31, 2017, your subscription pay-through date will be shortened. The amount of time will vary depending on how far in advance your subscription is prepaid. Your current service type and new subscription rate are listed below. To review our terms and conditions, please visit www.tronc.com/tc

WARNING
I stopped subscribing to LA Times years ago because I was hit multiple times with deception like this. Every single time I signed up for a "one year subscription", it would always end by about month 9 or 10 or so. Not only that but they had previously hiked my weekly rate without telling me. So, for example, I'd be on month 11 and paying full price.

There is no way to "turn off" the automatic subscription after one year or after your balance is zero. If you turn off autopay, they will just continue deliveries when they jack up your rate and then back bill you. I have no problem with their paper but their billing practices are deceptive and there is no way that a consumer can even tell how far their subscription is paid through by looking at their website. Their site is so shoddy when it comes to billing info.

Last time I subscribed, I put a reminder on my calendar for month 10 to call them up and ask them to schedule me to stop once my subscription was up. When I called, on month 10, the rep told me that I was only paid through until the following week ... about 2 months short of my "one year subscription". Obviously I just cancelled immediately because I was done.

Never again. As much as I'd like to support traditional news outlets, I cannot condone their billing practices.

I just called them and told them I wanted to cancel, since I was paying $9.92/year for Sunday only and they were jacking it up to $1.00/week... I was first offered .60/week, then .35/week. I can deal with .35/week, but seriously might rethink since I can get coupons online or sent to my phone with the store apps, and I can get the comics online.

LA times are a-holes. They are almost as bad as NY Times. I would not wipe my behind with that nonsense. I would not want it even if it was for free. OP needs a reality check.

Same for me. So this deal is null and void, for the reason you pointed out. They shouldn't even be taking orders for this rate since they won't be fulfilling it at this rate.

Received $1/wk notice as well. When is it starting? (Jan 2018?) cause I haven't received any billing cept for the $10/year for the last 2 years.

With the newsroom trying to unionize, I'm leaning towards not renewing at $52/year.
