I ordered this set when it was in-stock earlier this week from Amazon as the "frustration-free packaging" version. Mine came in the normal retail Lego box packaged inside the shipping box that was sent to Amazon from Lego. So, the gist is that this frustration-free version should come in the normal Lego retail box. I've attached a picture of what I received.

It looks like it's only comes in frustration free packaging.
Thanks for the heads up.

I did notice that, what does that mean exactly for a lego? They take it out of the box?

Or just as bad, they might ship it with no outer box at all!

Frustration free packaging usually means they remove the contents from its original box and put it into a box that's easier to open.

Regardless, for collectors (and anyone else who cares), this is as bad as Amazon simply slapping a label on the item's box itself.

Don't really see the point of offering this service with Lego sets. Their sets are already easy to open.

I bought some Marvel Legends and Transformers figures in frustration free packaging which was just the retail package stuck into a close fitting brown box. So it was actually more work since I had open 2 packages, but the retail box was in mint condition cause of the extra packaging. It's possible that Amazon did the same thing here, but since there are no reviews for the frustration free packaging there is no way to know for sure until someone orders it.

From the Amazon site:

Yeah, this sucks.

Still, it could be that LEGO can't keep up with demand so Amazon just said 'just ship us the guts' and we'll deal with boxing it.' Confused

I guess if you don't care about the box it's not a bad deal since it's somewhat hard to find at the moment.

That's how Lego sent mine. Standard Lego brandad outer box and the Saturn V rocket box inside. This kit is huge by the way, box wise.

I went through checkout and at the order page, there's a little box at the bottom that says "Ship in Amazon box". This option has been appearing quite frequently, so hopefully it saves the Lego box from damage and gives people peace of mind.
